The price of sleep
Jan. 4th, 2002 10:15 amis that you can have dreams like this: returning to your grade school to take part in a talent contest, only to be asked to MC at the last minute. You introduce some of the acts, but get cut off by teachers and faculty there. You think of a comedy routine, but nothing too racy, as this is a Catholic school you're competing in. Walk into your local hobby store, the one you used to work at in college. Notice how everything's changed, and that there's no one working the store. Run up to help a customer, and find out there is someone there after all! Back away politely, and check out the store to see if anything else needs to be straightened up, rearranged. Nope, everything looks good, pristine even. You end up helping out in the back, by painting one of the walls. Then it's time to leave, except the alarm was set off. It's a talking alarm, one that says "alarm...alarm" over and over, but as you move towards it it changes to "no.. no.. no.." when you finally get close to the exit it starts screaming "that'll NEVER work, that'll NEVER work" Christ, you think, what an annoying fucking alarm. At last, it is silenced, and you can leave.
There are some small cameos as you leave, from people in your gaming group and from your goth list. Pleasant and wistful smiles are exchanged... and then you wake up. At peace and rested. But with the nagging feeling that something is wrong... you peer down at the end of your bed. 8:06! Sure enough, you've overslept!
Fortunately, so did your boss. So all is good.
