Once upon a time there was a boy who lived out of synch with the world around him. He had many interests and hobbies, nothing that was so rare or exceptional that you couldn't find it in others if you looked hard enough, but he never seemed to enter into them in the right time. This caused a great deal of turmoil, and yet he pressed on, not abandoning his pursuits, but expanding his environment and his friends. He began to think that everybody was a gear, or a circle,. or an atom, electons spinning around a nuclei. Everyone spun at a different speed, or a slightly wider radius, on a tilted axis. Sometimes these electons would collide, other times the would move in synch for a whle, then spin apart as their cycles grew apart.
And the boy grew into a man in the fullness of time, with all the pain and joy and experiences that accompany growth. And he did find certain other circles that spun in similar orbits, at similar speeds. He became a part of many different circles and spheres, each with different influences and emphases. He never became an integral part of anything, but he found common ground in many places. Or perhaps, he became a bigger part of things than he knew, because you can only ever be sure of how fast your own electrons are spinning, never of anyone elses.
There was only one particular cycle he couldn't match, despite his efforts to do so. Or perhaps, because of his efforts to do so he was unable to match the frequency. He had forgotten how much it vexed him for a time, having focused on spinning in different directions. But like a circle, his rotations always comes back to the same point. His efforts and attempts to make himself match that frequency contined to come to naught.
But still he spins on. There are circles that are so big that we can't even see the curve. Some spin too quicky for the eye to see. And some just come flying out of nowhere.
And so the man continues to spin, to hum, to resonate. Waiting for a frequency to match his, or to provide harmony to his melody, or to spin with him in orbit around a star.
Sometimes his eyes are closed, sometimes they are open. But in either case.... he is smiling from the joy of spinning.
