Before you die...

... you see the Ring. According to the movie, I have five days left before I die a particularly hideous death. However, I have a little out. I saw the movie that this was based on : a Japanese film of the same name. That was over two months ago, and I still live.

But I don't sleep easily.

The Ring was a genuinely creepy movie: It wasn't violent or gory (though there were a few scenes that flashed by that scarred my brain). It did make excellent use of mood and setting to maintain a creepy vibe that lasted the entire movie. Lots of little points will make you jump. The final images will keep cropping up in your head late at night when you wake for no reason at all. It's especially bad when you wake up in the middle of the night, and your closet door is open, and you look outside your window at the full moon hanging in the sky like a ring of light... and your computer screen turns on... and I'll let you see the rest.

Now having seen both versions, and if you had to do it over again, would you still see both versions?

Heh. I think I expected from the Japanese version what I got from the American one, ie nightmares.

I'd have to watch the Japanese one again to be sure...

the original was creepy enough. i have no interest in seeing the "new and improved" version. nosireebob!

No, you really don't!

i can't wait. however, i will wait until the rush is over and see it on some quiet weeknight to minimize the number of people in the theatre. nothing ruins a good scary movie than hordes of plebes sitting all around me, munching on popcorn and even laughing at the scary parts.

the theatre was packed for the sneak preview i saw a few weeks ago. no one laughed except at the one truly lame moment in the film. people were pretty much dead silent and terrifed throughout the rest of it.

maybe at the preview there would be more people who are genuinely interested in being scared attending, but i still refuse to see a mainstream movie on a weekend night.
