This is how we do it!

Ah, THUD. Thank you for kicking the bad funk out of my system and replacing it with chrome-plated, bio-electrical plasma funk! There was a tasty banquet of tunes served piping hot by Shivar and Static, which I washed down with a new favorite beverage for Ceremony (The 007: stoli orange vodka, soda, and a splash of OJ. No, I don't know why they call it a 007). Ayun was there with her co-worker, or as she put her "her excuse for coming out to the club." There was a brief exchange about snarky comments about dancers, before I hit the floor myself. I'm sure I caught them looking my way once or twice. I wonder what was said?

That reminds me of an old story. Several years ago I was at a New Years Eve party in a warehouse in Chelsea. The host announced there would be a dance off: the DJ would mix up some tracks, and judges would tap you to remove you from the floor. I distinctly remember Photiq and my self walking off the floor before the contest started. Now, if you look up fluidity and "grace while dancing" in the dictionary, you'll see pictures of Photiq there. If you look it up on Wikipedia, there will be a link to youtube videos. I like to think I'm no slouch on the floor myself. I think we both came to the same conclusion: We don't dance to compete. An interesting coda to that story is that Heatray was one of the last two contestants.

It's a bit scary to think about how long I've been dancing. The thought crossed my mind as I jumped around during a cover of "Join in the Chant". That song must be twenty years old right now, and I think I've been dancing to it for about that long. I'm not quite as bouncy or flaily as I was in those days, but I can still Join in the Chant.

In other news, new grill is acquired! Five burners of flaming fury await your burgers and vegetables and other culinary masterpieces.
Is it Sunday yet?

a couple of months ago, at the end of another night at Ceremony, I was changing over into bike togs and a kid came up to me and asked, "hey, man, how'd you learn to dance like that?"

and I swear, I looked at him and thought he must've been 19 or 20 and I did the math and held back a response like, "I've been at this for as long as you've been out of diapers" and just said ... "time and love, kid. That's all you need. Little bit of time, whole lotta love and eventually you'll get the groove that works for you."

I like the story about how you guys walked off the contest. Dancing can be performance, but that's not the main reason why some of us do it.

Your words are full of truth.

It's all about expressing our love. Even though the contest was kinda tongue-in-cheek, who wants someone judging how well they love?

dude, next time you see [livejournal.com profile] silentq or I remind us to tell you about Das Ich at Kinetik. They were so full of love that we were starting to worry about them.
