Fan Tabulous

Played a little warhammer friday night, then came home and took things easy.  Saturday was more putzing around the house, then a fairly laborious process of rounding up materials and traveling into the contry for a fire spinning cookout.  Lots of new faces, and very interesting performances.  Fire spinning isn't just visual beautiful, the sounds is pretty amazing too.  The constant rush of the flames in the air, the way the spinner moves in and out of shadow.  I took one of the staffs and played with it a bit in the darkness, but unlit.  This could be worth looking in to.

Sunday my friend Carmen and his friend Greg came into town.  We went out to lunch for sushi, browsed Newburry comis a bit, then ended up back at the house for more conversations.  They had never really tried sushi before, so I suggested the boats, which they attacked with much gusto.  All the sushi was delicious, and I had a serious case of sushi face again with the black marlin.  My God, it's been too long.  I was a bit stalled for plans, but it turns out no plans were needed.  We talking most of the day away, ending with discussions of my legendary status in the State College LARP scene.  Apparantly someone out there wants to be me in the worst possible way.  How about that?

I'd seen some pretty awful movies lately, so I cleansed my cinematic pallate with Queen Margot.  Stunning.  Well worth seeing again.  Next up is the epic Gettysburg, which I'm really looking forward to.

See it! It captures the beauty and the ugliness of the time too. The big religious fight v. Catholicsim and Protestantism pushes a lot of buttons with me. The smaller thread of enemies becoming friends played out well against the bigger picture. Plus, tons of intrigue and plotting. Plus, Isabelle Adjani is to die for (as is Asia Argento to a lesser degree).

And the movie apparently caused quite a stir at one point. I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't remember why, but I'll have to watch it and find out :)
