Future Exploding with Awesome

Wednesday night's Laced was an absurdly good time. I had a last minute urge to buy a hat that matches my suit. After some careful perusal, and a nice discount, I picked up a hat that was a good match. The night had a good blend of new and older faces, and I found myself out on the floor more often than usual. There were some wonderfully flirtastic times, and plans are in the works. I also lined up a date, from an interest that I wasn't sure was there. There is no ambiguity about the phrase "We have to go out." A pricier night than I expected, but well worth it.

Last night our Fantasia group watched Wasted on the Young. It was a small turnout, and people missed a really good movie. It's set in a exclusive private Australian school, where the social king of the school finds his advanced rebuffed by a cute but not popular girl. She's swooning over the king's reclusive, computer obsessed brother. The King can't handle not getting what he wants, and things begin to spiral out of control for everyone involved. The film is fascinating on many levels. The incorporation of technology permeates the film and the school, kids send out mass texts about fights, and popularity rises and falls over Facebook and student message boards. We often read texts between characters on the screen, and many of the scene transitions have the field of a web page, or a glitch in the program. There are many non-linear cuts that slide in and out of the past, somewhat confusing but cleverly done. There are no adults in the movie at all (other than the twenty something actors playing high school kids), and this helps reinforce the reality that for these kids, they are the ultimate authority. If you are popular, you literally have control over the lives of those under you. There are no parents for support, no teachers or principals, just the ruthless hierarchy of your peers. The cinematography is quite beautiful and rather homo erotic; lots of lingering underwater shots of boys swimming and topless. After a while we had to chuckle at it. The music is quite current and laced through the film. It's an extremely engaging movie, and rather short. You can't see it on Netflix yet, but I have a copy if you are interested.

The weekend, it is almost here. I finally get to pick up a massage tonight, then home for dinner and Warhammer, and a mustache themed party. I've started working harder at making OKCupid work for me, sending out ten 4 star ratings a day, generating more traffic looking at my page (which I think needs a touch up). I even lined up a date for Sunday night, along with my plans for Monday as well. It's small, but it's a start.
