The Year of Fight Club

January - The year gets off to a good start with a fine party at Pax's. I have a good time clubbing, playing Rock Band, going on my first Internet date. Gaming goes well, and I meet up with Jack, an old friend from years past. Good progress on all levels.

February - Spin Jam grows depressing, clubbing becomes either really on, or really off. I start associating mood issues with improper eating. My cousin Dawn visits, Mom becomes a librarian, my sister becomes a grandmother. Very positive work review, big argument with my therapist.

March - I start playing in Tricia's Mage game, I fire my therapist. the sub frame assembly on my car goes out. Mood continues to drop, cumulating in a visit to the Emergency Room.

April - I realize that I need to add more details about good times, even if they need be private. Danger Planet closes down, putting a big crimp in local playing. Social awkwardness increases at parties and clubs. Lots of Rock Band playing instead. I start making lots of upgrades (new clothes, futon). Fire spinning for Easter, mixed bag at Colonial. Gabriel dies. One of the property managers at work asks me out, it doesn't go well.

May - The bleakest month of the year, a non stop string of unrequited crushes, bad club nights, awkward parties, too much drinking, and losing my cool during gaming.

June - My descent plateaus, thanks to a great night talking with SilentQ. I begin taking a new approach to gaming which pays off. I look into the possibly of Asberger's Syndrome. I begin relaxing more at parties, club nights. Wildfire marks my return to the fire spinning community, it turns out they missed me.

July - I begin Crossfit training. Social success with Tegin's bout tour, 4th of July party. I begin investigating dating sites again. Spin Jam becomes less awkward. Fantasia is an absolute blast, as was the decompression party. Quote of the month "Do you know how beautiful you are?"

August - Social awkwardness returns, lost all my keys. I'm crashing a lot more due to the increased workouts, not increasing food intake enough apparently. Good visit with the parents, great time at Sin-O-Matic. Tricia wraps up her Mage game splendidly, I have good times at two different birthday parties.

From September out, the entries are far fewer, at best six a month.

September - I meet new unrequited crushes, and date someone I'm not interested in, but I do it to give them a chance. Therapy starts anew, lots of mental gymnastics revolving around dating, fears of commitment, problems stemming from parents. I find happiness with being on my own.

October - Wildfire much more emotionally punishing this time around. Missed one wedding when clutch burned out, that and breaks and tune up wipe out my savings. Ennui grows at work. Lots more brain work going on. Month ends with a stellar 40th birthday party.

November - I injure a tendon in my foot. Time for new shoes and sneakers. Illuminating conversation with JT. Our pirate game wraps up, a club night is retired. I am inundated with possible dating possibilities and all of them fail. Growing lateness at work. One date occurs, but maddeningly beyond my control. Sin-O-Matic is a very good time, as is Thanksgiving.

December - great Tarot reading from Sara, which sadly doesn't follow through. One good night at Ceremony, but social awkwardness rules for the rest of the month. Big social fail at Sin-O-Matic, I retreat from mostly everything for the end of the month. Holiday events with Sara and Johanna are fun, my family Christmas is cancelled due to a sick uncle. Another uncle dies a few days later. My family tries to cheer me up, but only makes things worse.

That was 2009, eh? Good riddance. About the best thing I did all year was getting involved in Crossfit. I tried a lot during the year, and failed a lot. Self conflict was the biggest defining characteristic of the year. I did manage to keep my job, and not alienate myself completely from people, even if I do feel I let my friendships slide a bit. I'd like to just skip ahead over the next few days and pick up on the world again on Monday.
