What is that strange quality of music, where a song can fall one one person's ears as a simple collection of notes signifying nothing, where the next person who hears it is moved to tears of beauty?

There are sappy songs, and then there are beautiful songs, and there are songs which slice deep inside you and touch something magnificent. It fills you slowly like warm water, every note and added line adding to the ones who came before, and then...

(some idiot calls you and asks an innane question. Turning off phone...)

ahem, and them it begins to resonate inside you, you can feel little electic impulses flashing along your skin, and everything slows down as you begin to drift through the soundscape the music has created, drifting in a sonic sea.

I love the places that music can take me.

i was just listening to wzbc last night and thinking the same thing. there was a great old school style ethereal/ambient set. i was on top of a car park in some ass-end of brighton, it was dark and deserted, and the whole thing just took me back to how i felt when i first discovered that kind of music. strange tho, how lyrical music doesn't affect me as much. i appreciate it, but not as essentially and completely...
